Blackwater Bowhunters were formed in 1972 in a members back yard. The only way you could join was by invitation only. In only a few years the club started over growing the back yard. Some nearby land was leased, after a short time the club received a charter from the Virginia Bowhunters Assoc. At this time the club decided to take applications from prospective members. The membership kept growing, so 28 paper spot targets and 14 paper animal targets were installed. Not so long after, the first 3D’s came out. A few years passed and the landlord passed away. We then moved to Foxfire Road. During the move we lost a lot of the members that held the club together. Here we put in 28 spot and 30 3D targets and received a charter from the Archery Shooters Assoc. By the end of our 5 year lease we were down to only a hand full of members. One of our members let us move to his land on Wirtz Road. During the move one problem turned into another, but we keep fighting. We now have a very nice range at 1084 Wirtz Road only 1 mile off Hwy 220. We are equipped with 14 paper spot and 25 3D targets with 6 each practice targets, and received a charter from the International Bowhunters Org. In 2011 we dropped all organizations except the Virginia Bowhunters Association. We also received certification to hold IBEP classes on our range.

All Officers, Board of Directors, Members, Workers, etc. are volunteers.
No one at Blackwater Bowhunters, Inc. receives payment for any reason.
When you become a member you can; Shoot on the range at any time except for: workdays, Monday thru Saturday during hunting season and 1/2hr. after sunset until sunrise for safety reasons. On workdays after work is done the range will be reopened to shoot. Get the combination to the door. Have a voice in the meetings. Be a member of the V.B.A. Carpool to other tournaments. Receive instructions on how to become better archers.
